I just performed oral sex on a female prostitute. What are my chances of infection and should I be tested and worried???

Unprotected sex, including oral sex, especially if the receiver is a high risk partner (prostitute), puts you the giver at great risk. You need to be tested!! check the link at the bottom of the page for home hiv test kits.

I thought that saliva breaks down the virus and that vaginal fluid caries much concentration of hiv than blood, is it really great risk?

The risk of HIV transmission from an infected partner through oral sex is much smaller than the risk of HIV transmission
from anal or vaginal sex.
Because of this, measuring the exact risk of HIV transmission as a result of oral sex is very difficult. In addition, since most sexually active individuals practice oral sex in addition to other forms of sex, such as vaginal and/or anal sex, when transmission occurs, it is difficult to determine whether or not it occurred as a result of oral sex or other more risky sexual activities. Finally, several co-factors can increase the risk of HIV
transmission through oral sex, including: oral ulcers, bleeding gums, genital sores, and the presence of other STDs.
When scientists describe the risk of transmitting an infectious disease, like HIV,the term “theoretical risk” is often used. Very simply, “theoretical risk” means that passing an infection from one person to another is possible, even though there may not yet be any actual documented cases.
“Theoretical risk” is not the same as
likelihood. In other words, stating that HIV
infection is “theoretically possible” does not necessarily mean it is likely to happen—only that it might. Documented risk, on the other hand, is used to describe transmission that has actually occurred, been investigated, and documented in the
scientific literature. Cunnilingus carries a
theoretical risk of HIV transmission for the
insertive partner (the person who is licking of sucking the vaginal area) because infected vaginal fluids and blood can get into the mouth.
Likewise, there is a theoretical risk of HIV
transmission during cunnilingus for the receptive partner (the person who is having her vagina licked or sucked) if infected blood from oral sores or bleeding gums comes in contact with vulvar or vaginal cuts or sores. Furthermore cunnilingus with a high risk person ie. prostitute, IV drug user, multiple sex partners,and/or the presence of other STD's.

Thank you Tam. So are you saying that my risk is only theoretical and there are no documented cases from cunningulus?

Hi, some further clarification. I live in Singapore and this happened with a prostitute here. All prostitution is heavily regulated ie. all of them are required to be tested for all STD's each month are fired immediately if they contract any illness. She was tested and negative 30 days ago but I realize that the window of partners (she has 5-10/day) between testings still poses risk. To explain the interaction a bit more, I used the tip of my tongue for 2 minutes then sucked for 1 minute before realizing the stupidity then started to spit all of the fluids (I would guess mostly my saliva) out into a tissue then promptly rinsed with listering and water to clean my mouth. I will get tested but hope that some of this (regulations in Singapore and cleaning mouth) help to reduce some of my risk. Your comments would be appreciated. Thank you again for all your support and efforts on what must be a tedious but hopefully rewarding job. Regards

He shrugged, stepping around her so he could sit to put on his boots. She found her arms and legs wrapped tightly around him, although she still couldnt see. Never before had the nearness of a child made her want to be a mother. They stayed on their knees, slapping each others arms aside as they struggled for purchase. She clutched him, snatched at her thoughts like fireflies flitting about her. Her current position didnt allow her to see Nialdlye, Brevin, Lanthan, or Tykir. But then, they had time. That was, perhaps, the most frightening part of the spell. Brevin had called them teasing on more than one occasion. I could have been right! What more do you want me to say? She didnt want to know what Nialdlye had to say. He grinned when she licked her lips. No more prompting was necessary. She closed her eyes, wanting to savor every little move he made. She put on her best devious grin. She shrugged, sidestepping to lower herself to the edge of one of two couches. It wasnt real, you know. Her race was born to breed. I want this time to just be us.
